PHOTO OF JESUS
PHOTO NEGATIVE OF THE IMAGE ON HIS BURIAL CLOTH “THE SHROUD OF TURIN”
A MIRACLE OF CHRIST WE SEE EVEN TO THIS DAY

The Shroud of Turin
The Shroud of Turin is a rectangular linen cloth, measuring approximately 4.4 x 1.1 Meters (14.4 x 3.6 feet) and is believed by millions to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ. It is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, from which it derives its most common name - The Shroud of Turin.

Above painting by Giulio Clovio, shows how Jesus was wrapped in a large linen sheet known as a shroud.  This form of burial was the Jewish custom at the time of Jesus.

This is how the Holy Shroud looks as we see it with our eyes (from http://www.sindone.org/en/scient/telo/sin_len.htm). There is only a very faint image of a human being on the shroud. The first photograph taken of the Shroud in 1898 revealed the miraculous nature of this faint imprint.

In the Bible this cloth is described "Joseph [of Arimathea] took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock." Matthew 27:59-60.

The Shroud of Turin has a faint impression of a human body on it. On May 28, 1898 an amateur Italian photographer, Mr. Secondo Pia, took the first photograph of the shroud. He was startled by the resulting negative which seemed to give the appearance of a positive image. This means that the image on the Shroud itself is a negative

Sundarium Oviedo
The Bible also says "Simon Peter, following him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloth lying on the ground, and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloth but rolled up in a place by itself." (John 20:6-7).Shroud believers hold that the linen cloth refers to the Shroud of Turin, while the other cloth refers to the Sudarium of Oviedo

The Sudarium of Oviedo has resided in the Cathedral of Oviedo in Spain since the 8th century. This small bloodstained piece of linen is revered as one of the burial cloths mentioned in the Gospel of St. John. The Sudarium of Oviedo is traditionally held to be the cloth that covered the head of Jesus.

The Sudarium's existence and presence in Oviedo is well documented in Spain since the seventh century. Before this date scholars trace the location of the Sudarium to Jerusalem.

Forensic analysis of the bloodstains on the Shroud and the Sudarium suggest that both cloths covered the same head at nearly the same time. Based on the bloodstain patterns, the Sudarium would have been placed on the man's head while he was in a vertical position, presumably while still hanging on the cross.

A 1999 study by the Spanish Center for Sindonology, investigated the relationship between the two cloths. Based on history, forensic pathology, blood chemistry (both the Shroud and the Sudarium have type AB blood stains), and the blood stain patterns which are congruent on both cloths, they concluded that the two cloths covered the same head at two distinct, but close moments of time.

Carbon Dating Fiasco
To determine the age of the cloth of the Shroud, Carbon Dating was done in 1988 on a small sample cut from a corner of the Shroud by three very well known independent Laboratories. The results put the date of the Cloth at about year 1300. This was devastating news for the believers of the Shroud, even though they continued in their blind belief. Recently it was found that the Carbon Dating results were not right because the sample taken from a corner of the Shroud was an area which had been repaired by a process known as invisible darning. Science And Shroud
Several scientific studies  have been conducted on the Shroud, but to date nobody has been able to explain how the impression  came on the Shroud. The impression on the  cloth is a photo-negative. It is impossible for somebody to paint an image as a photo negative, especially centuries before the invention of photography and when people had no idea as to what  a negative was. Some suggest that may be the imprint was made by using a medieval pinhole camera and recently some people have made images on pieces of cloth by using large pinhole cameras. But the image on the shroud is so unique without any shadows, that eminent scientists are still baffled as to how such an image was formed on an ancient linen cloth.

The image on the shroud is unique in that there are no shadows. A normal photo uses light and all these photos have some areas with shadows depending on the direction of light falling on the subject. A photograph captures the reflected light from the subject, and always has some areas with shadows, like behind the nose or under the eyes of the subjects. The image on the Shroud has no shadows and is based on the distance of the body from the cloth, as if the light emanated from the body rather than light being reflected by the body.

Scientists working for The Los Alamos National Laboratory (the US National Institute where the first Atomic Bomb was developed) did some analysis on photos of the Shroud of Turin using an instrument called the VP-8 Image Analyzer used by NASA to convert radar photos of the surfaces of Planets like the Moon and Mars into topographical maps – that is to make three dimensional - 3D maps showing mountains and valleys. The VP-8 image analyzer produced a 3D image of the shroud photo. These scientists had tried thousands of photos before on the VP-8 but never had they got a 3D result. The results on the Shroud were so spectacular that these hard core scientists still have no explanation as to how such an image could have formed on an ancient linen cloth.

A lot more scientific studies have revealed very astonishing facts about the shroud. These modern day scientific findings confirms the authenticity of the Shroud as being the burial cloth of a man from Jerusalem who was crucified as described in the Bible and buried in the 1st century AD.

The site http://www.british-israel.ca/shroud.htm has some very interesting matter regarding the scientific studies on the shroud. Copied below is a portion from the site

How Can We be sure that the 'Man of the Shroud' is Jesus ?
The latest and most dramatic discoveries concern a piece of writing on the Shroud itself. For years, people had been asking why below and to the sides of the chin there are three clear and regular lines where no imprint is present. The Paris-based organisation CIERT (Centre International d’Etudes sur le Linceul de Turin, The international centre of studies on the Shroud of Turin), which I represent in Italy, has conducted studies in the most advanced institute in Europe for image analysis via computer, the Institut Optique d’Orsay, whose director is Professor André Marion. All official photographs of the Shroud were divided into tens of thousands of squares which were then given a corresponding optical density and transferred onto a visualisation programme. By means of an extremely advanced programme, some letters gradually began to emerge, in Latin and in Greek: under the chin, we find written ‘Jesus’ and on one side, ‘Nazarene’. What is the explanation for this? The ‘exactor mortis’ the centurion charged with ensuring the execution of the condemned, had drawn strips of ‘glue’ onto the cloth on which he would write the name of the deceased with a red liquid. Where these strips were drawn, the cloth was impermeable and would not, therefore, be subject to the chemical process which subsequently formed the imprint.

Under the chin, we find written ‘Jesus’ and on one side, ‘Nazarene’ (highlighted in red in the picture).

Pope John Paul the Second was an ardent believer of the shroud and the contents of his speech on the Holy shroud can be viewed on the website http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/travels/documents/hf_jp-ii_spe_24051998_sindone_en.html

This true image of Jesus Christ should be honored by all Christians. Many have experienced the miraculous powers of this image including this author. The purpose of this web site is only to spread the knowledge of the existence of a Miracle of Christ which we can see to this day and is not known to many.
